Ahoy!
I hail from Melbourne, Australia – way down south but full of fun (not just a place to see Kangaroos and the like). I arrived in Hong Kong on Wednesday 20th August.
Last year I completed my honours degree in Politics and Chinese at the University of Melbourne, writing my thesis on nationalist discourses surrounding the recently completed Beijing Olympic Games. I’ve previously studied at Peking University (Beida) and really hope to find opportunities to speak Mandarin in Hong Kong.
I’m an avid cinema fan, I enjoy seeing live music, making pancakes, drinking beer, eating icecream, the beach, long walks on the beach etc. I’d love to get an introduction to Hong Kong from an expert if you’re out there – particularly if you can tell me a place to have a beer that isn’t the drudgery of Lan Kwai Fong.
I use Facebook pretty regularly, look me up, as that’s probably the best way to reach me socially.

So if one is interested in seeing “kangaroos and like,” what’s the best city to visit? I’ve never been “down undah”, but always wanted to.
Thanks for the comment – ah yes, well, I would suggest that you come to Melbourne, check out the kangaroos, but then hang around for the culture. There is really plenty to see…
i’m all for avoiding LKF!
there’s a decent brewpub in causeway bay that has a nice and spacious terrasse with palm trees and the like. beyond that, i hear there are some good cheap bars on lamma island and there are always dive bars in TST and mongkok.
Well, it is interesting, will they appear and jump on streets?
Kowloon has a lot of nice little bars actually..there is a copycat LKF over there … or soho has plenty of them hidden away.. you just have to discover the little gems in HK… should organize a bar hopping tour for our class
Maybe I can volunteer to be the guide if someone is buying me drinks!!! hehe…
